maybe

maybe

you know how I daydream Boss

how I stop washing dishes

grow wings on my back

and fly around the yard

maybe over to that mountain

with the slickrock face

and burley tree-freckles

or over to so-and-so’s house

the one I love but who sticks

his foot out to trip my mind

I’ll bet you’re a daydreamer too

urging birds to laugh at clouds

and beavers to slap their tails

at each other’s jokes

you sure are funny dreaming

us into whoever it is we are

maybe you could let us in

on your dreams Boss

maybe slap your tail

for me and my friend
